RE: MAINE Campground Suggestions!?

We loved Red Barn Campground in Holden, about 45 minutes inland from Acadia/Bar Harbor. http://www.redbarnmaine.com/
It has bingo (beano as the locals call it) in the evenings, a nice pool, and the staff are super friendly. The sites are spacious and easy in/out.

RE: going to Bryce and Zion in 2009!

We just did this trip, returned last week. If you are staying 9 days in the area, you can do a decent job seeing these sights. One or two 3-ish mile hikes per day would be a good plan. Here was our itinerary:
Day 0 Arrive Grand Canyon, Trailer Village in the evening.
Day 1 Grand Canyon, drive around rim road, get lay of land, hike South Kaibab trail to Ooh Aah Point.
Day 2 Grand Canyon, helicopter ride (Papillon airline), hike Bright Angel Trail to 1.5 mile rest house.
Day 3 Drive to Glendale, UT, arrive at Glendale KOA. Drive to Zion, hike the Watchman trail
Day 4 Drive to Bryce, hike the slot canyon trail (can't remember the name), drive back to KOA to clean up, drive to Las Vegas for dinner (long drive).
Day 5 Drive to Moab, UT by way of Monument Valley. Arrive at Moab KOA.
Day 6 Get lay of land, Hummer 4x4 trip (Moab Adventure Center, Inc.).
Day 7 Relax by KOA pool, hike Delicate Arch trail at Arches NP.
Day 8 See Dead Horse Point State Park and Canyonlands NP (visitors' center and short hikes only), spend afternoon by KOA pool.
Day 9 Drive to Denver, start of trip home.

Confident with etrailer.com or hitches-forless.com?

I need to order a replacement part for a Draw-Tite round bar weight distributing hitch, part no. 3279. It is the head to which the spring bars and hitch ball attach.
The two online retailers with the lowest price on this part are etrailer.com and hitches-forless.com.
Has anyone used these online retailers, and would they recommend them as reputable businesses? Thanks.

RE: gorilla glue for exterior

Don't use Gorilla Glue, it foams and oozes onto what you don't want it to be on. I like it as a wood glue, where you can sand the excess and paint over the joint. But not on something that will be visible.
5 minute liquid epoxy (syringe type), epoxy putty (kneaded dough-type), Super Glue (cyanoacrylate) or silicone adhesive are my recommendations, depending on the materials being glued and environment they are exposed to. Read the labels of the adhesives for the materials they are compatible with. Prepare the surfaces to be glued by lightly sanding (if possible), followed by an alcohol or acetone wipe. This will give the best possible adhesion.

RE: Zion Camping Locations

Last week we stayed at the Glendale KOA, east of Zion and west of Bryce. Great location to visit both parks. The KOA had great views of red sandstone hoodoos from within the park, a clean and refreshing pool, friendly staff and reasonable rates.

Interstate RV Park, Davenport, IA

Stayed here last night, en route to southeast PA. Very clean facility, with convenient access to freeway. Spacious, easy to find pull through sites. If you were staying for a few days, there are activities, including a pool, horeshoes and a play area.
Another nice thing, is this park is close to a Freightliner/CAT parts and service operation, and is close to two large RV dealers, who also sell parts.
Great facility in a great location. Two thumbs up.

Voyageur National Park / Lake Kabetogama, MN

Looking for a recommendation in this area to stay near the lake and see Voyageurs. Seems like the NP doesn't have full hookups, and I didn't find many RV parks when doing a google search. Found lots of cabins and lodges, though. Thanks for any feedback.

RE: Phila. to Buffalo

The PA state parks are nice, and they are putting more electric hookups in them. The mountain views are great, and many of them have campsites immediately adjacent to creeks or streams. Not full hookups, but nice facilities just the same.
These would be options to you if you are taking a leisurely trip, and have some time on your hands. Bald Eagle State Park and Hyner Run State Park are two good ones. There are many others in the central/northern PA area.

RE: A/C drippage

Agree with the above. I get some condensate on the ceiling near the cold air outlet, depending on how humid the day is. I have also had a small amount of ice once or twice. I notice on the Forest River/Cardinal brochure, that heat strips are now available for air conditioning units to avoid/eliminate icing. Similar idea to the heated door jamb on freezers.

RE: Still no breaks on my 07 keystone RV

Agree with all of the above. Here are the things to check:
- Verify 12V at wires for each trailer wheel. If no 12V at wheel, trace wiring for chafing, and proper connection at junction box. If no 12V at junction box, verify proper operation at tow vehicle 7-way plug. If no 12V at 7-way plug, diagnose brake controller or blown fuse on tow vehicle.
- Verify proper magnet operation at each trailer wheel, when tow vehicle break pedal is depressed. If 12V and no magnet operation, replace the magnet.
- Verify proper braking operation at each trailer wheel, same as above. If good 12V and magnet operation at each wheel, but no braking action, check/replace brake linings and/or linkages.
- Verify 12V across breakaway switch. If good 12V at switch, pull lanyard and verify 12V at each wheel. If no 12V at wheels when lanyard is pulled, replace breakaway switch.

RE: Do you balance your 5er tires?

Always balance highway tires. For class 3 and lighter trucks, and towed RVs, it doesn't cost any more.

RE: What to do at East Harbor State Park Ohio?

FISH! Some of the best walleye and smallmouth bass fishing in the world is in the waters of the western basin of Lake Erie. If you have a boat, bring it. If not, hire a charter boat and bring home some delicious walleye for dinner.

RE: Yellowstone

I agree that Yellowstone is a very special and spectacular place. We stayed at Fishing Bridge for a week last summer. We did a number of hikes, saw lots of wildlife, loved the evening ranger campfire programs, and capped it off with an Old Faithful eruption. Great place, we are lucky to have a resource like this to enjoy.

Moab KOA, Moab, UT

Stayed here for three nights, during a tour of Monument Valley, Arches National Park and Canyonlands National Park. Great location to use as a base for all of these attractions. Great views from inside the campground, with red sandstone cliffs to the west and the Lasal Mountains, including Mt. Peale, to the east. Clean and refreshing swimming pool. Fun social activities if you so desire: evening ice cream social and morning pancake/sausage breakfast. Loved it, two thumbs up.

Glendale KOA, Glendale, UT

Stayed two nights here, during a tour of Zion NP and Bryce NP. Great location to see the two national parks. We threw in an evening trip to Las Vegas, also. Very friendly staff, easy to access sites, good swimming pool (small but clean and refreshing). Great sandstone hoodoo views from inside the campground. Full hookups, but no cable. Friendly "neighbor" campers. Great experience, two thumbs up.
